MPs unite to help save post offices across the UK.

This week a group of cross-party MPs came together, to ensure the Post Office carefully considers the long-term consequences of potential closures. A total of 115 post offices are earmarked for closure – one of which is located on Silk Street in Leigh.

Local MP Jo Platt has already expressed her dismay at the potential Post Office closure in Leigh and she recently launched a petition to save it from closure. Now she is working with others in a bid to protect Leigh’s town centre post office.

Jo Platt said: “The Post Office on Silk Street is a vital part of Leigh’s town centre, providing critical services for older residents who depend on it for pensions, bill payments, and access to essential resources. It also plays a key role in supporting local businesses by offering logistical and financial services that help sustain our economy and town centre vibrancy.

“I am working with other MPs to monitor the Post Office’s consultation and to ensure that all potential closures are carefully considered.

“I also want to ensure the community’s voice is heard, so a local petition opposing the closure has been launched, highlighting the strong local opposition. I’d strongly encourage everyone to sign it and make their voices heard.”
