Jo Platt is the Labour and Co-operative Party MP for Leigh and Atherton.

Jo lives with her partner in the heart of Leigh and is mum to three children. Jo was the first woman to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Leigh, holding the seat from 2017 to November 2019.

Despite losing her seat in 2019, Jo remained at the heart of the community, becoming the Manager for Leigh Spinners Mill. Over the past four years, this historic mill has evolved of enterprise and innovation. It now houses over 70 businesses, artists and cultural organisations, all contributing significantly to the local economy.

In July 2024, she was re-elected as the MP for the newly-formed Leigh and Atherton constituency.

Jo is also a Patron for Compassion In Action – a Leigh-based organisation that helps people in crisis, with the provision of furniture, food and clothes – and for local non-profit organisations, including The Pelican Centre, Leigh Film Society, Everything Human Rights and the Northwest Computer Museum.

As the former Member of Parliament for Leigh, between 2017 and 2019, Jo served as a shadow minister for the cabinet office with the responsibility for digital implementation and cyber security.

Prior to 2017, Jo represented the Astley and Mosley Common ward of Wigan Council as a councillor from 2012-2017 and was appointed a Cabinet member with the portfolio for children and young people.

Jo is loyal to Leigh and Atherton and she will fight every day to ensure the voice of Leigh and Atherton is heard in Parliament.
