Jo Platt, Labour's candidate for Leigh and Atherton.

Jo Platt is Labour’s candidate for Leigh and Atherton. She lives with her partner in the heart of Leigh and is mum to three children.

Jo was the first woman to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Leigh, holding the seat from 2017 to November 2019.

In 2019, the seat fell to The Conservatives, but Jo is determined to win Leigh and Atherton back, because local people deserve better.

Jo currently works as the Manager for Leigh Spinners Mill on behalf of the Leigh Building Preservation Trust, a charity founded to regenerate Leigh’s iconic Grade II listed building, developing its heritage offer whilst giving the opportunity and space to develop culture, sports and business opportunities for the Leigh area.

She a Board Director for the ADHD Foundation, a national charity focusing on integrated health and education and is secretariat to the ADHD All Party Parliamentary Group, working with Parliamentarians and other partners to influence policy and provision for the benefit of those living with ADHD.

Jo is a Patron for Compassion In Action, a Leigh-based organisation that helps people in crisis, with the provision of furniture, food and clothes. She is also a Patron for local Non-profit organisations, including the Leigh Film Society, Everything Human Rights and the Northwest Computer Museum.

As the former Member of Parliament for Leigh, Jo served as a shadow minister for the cabinet office with the responsibility for digital implementation and cyber security.

Prior to 2017, Jo represented the Astley and Mosley Common ward of Wigan Council as a councillor from 2012 – 2017 and was appointed a Cabinet member with the portfolio for children and young people.
