Yesterday, the Post Office announced that 115 branches are at risk of closure, including Leigh’s Post Office on Silk Street.
In response to the news, Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – has started a petition to save the post office, which she is urging residents to sign.
Jo says: “This post office plays a vital role in our community and its loss would be a real blow to our local economy and to the countless residents who rely upon its services.
“I have started a petition to save the post office and I’d like to urge residents and local businesses to sign it.
“I’ll also be writing to Nigel Railton at the Post Office and Gareth Thomas, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Department for Business and Trade) to put forward our case for keeping this essential service in Leigh town centre, for the benefit of local residents and businesses.”
