Jo Platt MP for Leigh and Atherton

The Long Covid Support group met up today – and Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – chaired the meeting.
Th group came together to hear from Professor Chris Brightling about his research on Long Covid.
Professor Chris Brightling, from The University of Leicester, is leading the UK’s largest study into Long COVID.
The research revealed that most hospitalised patients experience lasting symptoms like fatigue, breathlessness, and brain fog. He also identified immune-related subtypes of the condition, paving the way for targeted treatments.
Professor Chris Brightling also identified that poor sleep is strongly linked to ongoing breathlessness and anxiety. Trials are now testing rehabilitation and anti-inflammatory therapies to improve recovery.
The All‑Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Long Covid is a UK cross-party forum that was established in January, 2025. The group puts to spotlight the impact of Long Covid, whilst pressing for action on research, healthcare, and government support.
