Casework Snapshot - Wins From This Week

From tackling illegal dumping to securing school funding and supporting vulnerable residents, Jo and her team continue to deliver real results for people across Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Lowton, Golborne, and parts of Astley.

Here are some of this week’s casework wins:

Clearing Fly-Tipping to Improve Our Streets

After local residents reported multiple incidents of fly-tipping, Jo’s office raised the issue with the council, leading to swift clearance of the waste and a cleaner, safer environment for everyone.

Overturning a Benefit Overpayment Decision

Jo successfully intervened in a case where a resident was wrongly asked to repay benefits. Following her contact with the DWP, the decision was reviewed and reversed – meaning the overpayment was ruled non-recoverable.

Improving Pedestrian Safety Through Enforcement

Responding to concerns about illegal parking, Jo secured the remarking of double yellow lines and stronger enforcement in a hotspot area – making local roads safer for pedestrians and families.

Pushing Back on Asylum Interview Delays

When a constituent’s initial asylum interview was cancelled three times, Jo stepped in and raised the issue directly with the Home Office. As a result, the interview was finally conducted, allowing the case to move forward.

Boosting School Funding for Pupils with Complex Needs

A local primary school facing funding challenges received vital support from Jo’s office. After engagement with the local authority, the school secured a significant uplift in funding to better support pupils with additional learning needs.

Supporting a Resident Facing Rent Arrears

A constituent struggling with rent arrears due to under-occupancy charges was helped by Jo’s team to apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment. The application was approved, giving the resident the breathing space they needed.

If you or someone you know needs help, Jo and her team are here to support you.
