Today, Jo Platt MP attended the first meeting of the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) group down in Westminster.

The meeting, which was chaired by Bolton North East MP Kirith Entwistle, met to help support the government’s work on violence against women and girls, across departments, and to keep colleagues informed of upcoming announcements.

Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – said: “I joined the first Labour group meeting focused on Violence Against Women and Girls. This is a vital cross-departmental focus that I’m proud to be part of.”

Labour’s 2024 manifesto pledged to halve violence against women and girls (VAWG) in a decade. This pledge forms part of the government’s wider mission to halve serious violent crime and raise confidence in the police and criminal justice system to its highest levels, within a decade.

The government intends to set out how it will halve VAWG in a new strategy that is set to be published later this summer.
