From overturning unfair decisions to securing vital support, Jo and her team have continued to make a real difference for residents in Leigh and Atherton.
Here are some of this week’s casework wins:
Helping a Resident Rebuild After Prison
Jo stepped in to ensure a resident leaving prison was resettled back in their hometown – keeping them close to their child and existing support network, and giving them the best chance to move forward positively.
Unlocking Pension Credit and Full Entitlements
Jo successfully appealed a DWP decision for an elderly resident living with dementia. This not only secured Attendance Allowance but also unlocked Carer’s Allowance for their partner and automatic eligibility for Pension Credit, full Housing Benefit, and Council Tax Reduction.
Avoiding Court Action Over Council Tax Arrears
When a resident faced court over unpaid council tax, Jo negotiated directly with the council to agree a manageable payment plan – helping them stay on top of their finances and avoid legal action.
Securing the Right Education for a Child with SEND
After months of delay, Jo pushed the local authority to issue an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for a child with special educational needs. The child is now receiving the support they need and is thriving in school.
Cleaning Up Our Communities
Jo worked closely with the council to clear multiple incidents of fly-tipping – improving the environment for everyone and restoring pride in local streets.
Overturning a Parking Fine for a Disabled Resident
Jo successfully appealed a parking fine for a resident who had forgotten to display their Blue Badge – saving them from an unnecessary financial penalty.
If you or someone you know needs help, Jo and her team are here to support you.
