The UK Government has unveiled a landmark 10-year Creative Industries Sector Plan aimed at securing the country’s status as a global creative powerhouse by 2035.
The strategy builds on the strong foundation of a sector that currently contributes £124 billion to the UK economy and supports 2.4 million jobs. Through a combination of government investment and industry collaboration, the plan seeks to drive significant growth by removing barriers to business expansion and fostering long-term innovation.
Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – who is an advocate for the creative industries – said: “This is exciting news for our creative industries – the Government has introduced a 10-year sector plan to position the UK as a global leader in creativity and innovation by 2035.
“From film to gaming, advertising to performing arts – we’re backing all creative talent across every region, including in Greater Manchester.”
Key initiatives within the plan include targeted support to stimulate private sector investment, enhance skills and training, improve access to finance, and increase exports. The plan also places a strong focus on supporting high-growth creative subsectors and promoting regional development.
Developed in close partnership with industry leaders via an advisory taskforce co-chaired by Sir Peter Bazalgette and Baroness Shriti Vadera, the strategy is positioned as a vital step toward unlocking new economic opportunities and reinforcing the UK’s global leadership in creativity and innovation.
