From benefits appeals to urgent healthcare access, Jo and her team have been working hard to resolve issues and secure the support local people need.
Here are some of the casework wins from this week:
Unlocking Benefits and Financial Support
Jo secured a Disability Living Allowance (DLA) award for a family with two disabled children, which means an additional £16,000 a year through Universal Credit—plus backdated payments to help with immediate costs. She also overturned an incorrect Universal Credit decision, ensuring a resident received the support they were rightly entitled to.
Accessing Urgent Healthcare
Jo intervened with healthcare services on behalf of a resident suffering with a serious illness and years of pain. Thanks to this, they now have a surgery scheduled for next week.
Helping Young People into the Right Education
After months of delays, Jo pushed the local authority to take urgent action to get a young person an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). They are now being placed in an appropriate educational setting without further delay.
Securing Carer’s Allowance
Jo helped a resident successfully claim Carer’s Allowance, securing £999 in back payments and £83.30 a week going forward.
Supporting a Pregnant Resident into Safe Housing
Jo worked with the local authority to secure accommodation for a pregnant resident facing homelessness. The new property is now ready, and she’ll be able to move in safely and securely.
If you or someone you know is struggling with an issue, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Jo and her team are here to help.
