End child poverty.

Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – met The End Child Poverty Coalition in Westminster today, to discuss their work and to find out the latest statistics for the Leigh and Atherton constituency.

The End Child Poverty Coalition comprises over 135 organisations, including leading children’s charities, faith groups, social justice organisations and trade unions. They are united by a shared belief – that no child in the UK should grow up in poverty.

Jo is committed to tackling poverty and raising living standards locally. She says: “I attended the End Child Poverty Coalition parliamentary drop-in to look at the latest data on child poverty. Shockingly, 35.8% of children in Leigh and Atherton are living in poverty – which is well above the national average. This is something that we must strive to change.”

The event coincided with the publication of the annual Local Child Poverty Statistics by the End Child Poverty Coalition and the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University. The research presented the most up-to-date portrait of child poverty across Leigh and Atherton and beyond, shedding light on broader national and regional trends that require urgent attention.
