Local MP Jo Platt attended the Bowls Big Weekend event today, at the Gardeners Community Bowling Club in Howe Bridge. Local councillors were also in attendance.
The Bowls Big Weekend event is giving members of the community the chance to try out bowls, for free.
Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “It was great to take part in the Bowls Big Weekend and to have my first bowl. I even managed to win a game – and I loved the experience.
“This is a fantastic activity for young or old – it’s friendly, social, and surprisingly competitive. If you’ve never tried it, give it a go – you might surprise yourself.
“I’d like to say a huge thanks to Suzanne, Phil, Molly and Jaxton for the coaching and all credit to Andrew for being so welcome.”
As well as trying bowling for herself, Jo also got to see the fantastic to the work being done to increase participations and engage all generations. Bowling greens are cherished community assets that offer residents safe, inclusive pace that helps social isolation, foster friendships, and encourage more active lifestyles – and they are for all ages.
