Lowton C of E High School is going to be part of a government education pilot that will see 95,000 GCSE students in Manchester and the West Midlands receive their exam results digitally.

This pilot is ahead of a national rollout that could save up to £30m per year, as well as staff time on admin tasks.

Students involved in the pilot will still be able to go to school to get their paper results and do the traditional opening of the envelope on results day in August.

Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, said: “Through our Plan for Change, we’re harnessing technology to bring exam results into the 21st century.

“It will be much easier for students, less paperwork for parents, less admin for teachers, and less costly for taxpayers.”

It is hoped that the new system will be rolled out and that additional schools will take part next year.
