Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – is holding an open table for parents and carers in conjunction with Wigan Parent Carer Forum.

The event, which is set to take place 12:30pm-2pm, on Friday 9 May, 2025, will give parents the opportunity to ask their MP questions on the Government funding of SEND children in mainstream education.

Jo Platt said: “I am looking forward to meeting those parents that are effected by SEND funding. It will be good to meet them face to face and to give them the space to ask the questions they need answering.

“Every child should be able to attend a local school that meets their needs. To make our education system more inclusive, the Government is allocating £740 million to create 10,000 additional places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

“Mainstream schools will also receive funding to expand or adapt their specialist units. Research suggests at least 15,000 young people could have their needs met through these specialist provisions.”

This open table discussion will be held at Compassion in Action (58 Leigh Road, Leigh WN7 1QR).

All Leigh and Atherton residents are welcome to attend. If you’d like to come along, email Jo on: jo.platt.mp@parliament.uk to reserve your spot.
