Jo Platt visited Atherton High School to meet up with Year 11 students that are currently studying for their GCSE in Citizenship.
Jo Platt said: “I really enjoyed visiting Atherton High School. It was great to chat to the students about their Citizenship course – and to hear about some of the fantastic initiatives being led by the students, as well as their priorities and ambitions for Atherton.”
Within the curriculum for Citizenship, pupils learn about concepts such as power, democracy, rights, law, justice, diversity, equality, finance and active citizenship. Pupils are encouraged to think critically and to debate political and social issues, deepening their understanding through research and deliberation.
During the meeting, Jo also caught up with Atherton High School’s Headteacher – Mrs Turner.
