The railway arches on Queen Street, in Leigh – which has been an anti-social behaviour hotspot for several years – have been cleared up.
After considerable work by local MP Jo Platt – and with the support of GMP, the local authority, support agencies and local businesses, the site has now been cleared and secured.
Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt and Councillor Keith Cunliffe – Deputy Leader of Wigan Council – met with the owner of the railway arches to discuss the regeneration potential for the site. During the meeting, Jo Platt reaffirmed her commitment to improving town centre safety and bringing vacant properties back into use.
Jo Platt said: “I see my work on the Crime and Policing Bill as an opportunity to equip the police with the powers they need to turn places like Leigh town centre around, make our communities safer, and help rebuild public confidence.
“I will make sure the serious issues facing Leigh and Atherton are at the forefront of my mind.”
Residents and businesses are encouraged to play their part by reporting all issues related to anti-social behaviour – no matter how small they may seem.
