It has been 46 years since 10 men lost their lives – and another was seriously injured – in the Golborne Mining Disaster. This evening, local MP Jo Platt attended an event to remember those that were lost.
On 18 March, 1979, there was a build up of gas in one of the tunnels – 18,000 ft underground. This lead to a devastating explosion and lives were lost.
Tonight’s event’s event, which was head at St Thomas’ Church in Golborne, was organised to remember what happened and the lives that were lost.
Jo Platt said: “I attended another amazing commemoration event this evening – a concert – organised by the Golborne Ex Miners and performed by The Golborne Phoenix Choir.
“If you want to know what community is – this is it – a real coming together to remember our past.”
