Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – visited Bedford High School today, to meet with pupils playing in the Biggest Ever Football Session – a nationwide celebration of girls’ football, supported by The Football Association
The aim of the event – which is taking place in schools across England – is for girls to have the same football opportunities as boys in schools and clubs. The campaign aims to influence and drive change – showing that football can and should be played by girls.
Jo Platt said: “It was great to meet pupils at Bedford High School today, who were taking part in Biggest Ever Football Session.
“Football is for everybody – and events such as Biggest Ever Football Session are important – because we want to inspire the Lionesses of the future. One of the girls playing here at Bedford High School today, could become a footballing hero of the future.”
This year, the focus of the Biggest Ever Football Session will be on empowering girls and young women. It will drive awareness of the careers that women can have in football, as well as highlighting the key life skills that the game brings
It’s hoped that more girls than ever will take place in this year’s event. In 2024, 485,000 girls participated on the day – an increase on 220,000 in 2023 – and the 90,000 that took part in the first ever event.
