Jo Platt – the MP from Leigh and Atherton – attended the Community Britain launch – a new Co-operative Party campaign.
Community Britain will highlight stories of community resilience, celebrate the tradition of community activism and make the case for strengthened community power.
The Co-operative Party believes that community power – giving local people a say and a stake in their community. Community Britain will make the case for putting community power at the heart of politics and policy.
Jo Platt said: “It was great to attend the Community Britain launch and to hear the merits of projects like Spinners Mill mentioned, amongst others, highlighted in the difference they make to our communities.”
To coincide with the launch, an essay collection – called Stories from Community Britain – was launched. The collection highlights the role communities are already playing in solving Britain’s most pressing challenges, and reclaiming the role of communities as a serious political and economic force – not just a feel-good afterthought.
