Jo Platt is backing the Crime and Policing Bill, to help combat the anti-social behaviour that we are seeing on the streets of Leigh, Tyldesley, Golborne and Atherton.

Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “We shouldn’t have to deal with persistent anti-social behaviour and crime. I know this is a major concern for many businesses, residents, and visitors to our town centres.

“That’s why I fully support Labour’s Crime and Policing Bill which was introduced in Parliament today.”

Once it has passed through Parliament, over 50 new laws will be introduced.

Here are some key measures that Jo thinks will greatly benefit towns within the Leigh and Atherton constituency:

  • Every community will have a named police officer.
  • Seizing vehicles no longer requires a warning.
  • Life-saving measures to protect women and girls from stalking and spiking,
  • New offence for possessing a bladed weapon with intent to cause harm.
  • End effective immunity for £200 shop theft.
  • Cuckooing will be criminalised.
  • Criminalising moderators and admins of websites hosting child abuse material.
  • Police can enter premises to search for stolen goods, including phones and bikes, without a warrant.
  • Updated counter-terrorism powers to divert young people away from extremist activities.
