Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – visited the Leigh campus of Wigan and Leigh campus today.

Jo, who is a former Access to Higher Education Diploma Health student herself, had the opportunity to see how much the campus had changed since she was a student.

During the visit, Jo had a tour and saw the new animal management facilities, the Image Centre, the refurbished Learning Resources Centre and the common room and refectory areas.

Jo also met some of the college’s current students, who chatted about their subject choices and career aspirations.

Jo Platt said: “It was great to return to Wigan and Leigh College today – having previously studied there. It looks very different now from when I was a student.

“I studied health when I was there. I initially wanted to become a social worker, before going on to become an MP and having a career in politics, so I highlighted to the students that career paths can take different turns.”

The visit was rounded off with a question and answer session, where students got to express their concerns. They asked questions about safety, jobs and transport.
