Jo Platt MP for Leigh and Atherton

Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – met with Greater Manchester Police and Chief Inspector Adam Wignall today, to discuss what is being done to tackle crime in Leigh and Atherton – and the ongoing activity to rid Leigh town centre of anti-social behaviour.
During the meeting, Jo Platt was updated about activity throughout the consistency, but especially on the town centre hot spots that seem to be a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour.
Speaking after the meeting, Jo Platt said: “There’s still plenty of work to be done, but it’s reassuring to hear that residents and businesses are playing such a vital role – by reporting crime to the police and helping to prevent further crimes being committed.
“Leigh town centre has seen some successful plain-clothed operations and GMP has been working closely with council trading standards, housing and community resilience teams to address some of our most challenges issues.
“I’ve also been putting the case forward to the local authority for additional CCTV in key areas of the town centre which are seeing some of the biggest problems.
“I and my team on Bradshawgate frequently pass intelligence over to GMP and other stakeholders as it comes into us, and this feeds into investigations that take place.
“However, it is important that residents and businesses continue to report issues themselves, so that GMP has the information and the data they need to support their investigations.”
