Jo Platt – Leigh and Atherton MP – met with The Labour Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) in Westminster today.

During the meeting, Jo learnt more about key farm animal welfare issues and how the Government can support farmers in improving animal welfare.

The Labour Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), a members’ association that is officially affiliated to the Labour Party.

LAWS has identified four achievable policy solutions for the Labour Government to strengthen farm animal welfare and support British farmers. They are:

  1. Introducing mandatory animal welfare labelling
  2. Phasing out low welfare imports
  3. Transitioning to world leading cage-free systems
  4. Creating regulations on slaughter for farmed aquatic animals

According to LAWS, the measures would boost profits for British farmers, support the growth agenda, and improve consumer information, whilst improving the lives of millions of animals.
