Jo Platt MP hosted a meeting with small businesses in Atherton today, to discuss revitalising and regenerating the town centre.
The meeting was attended by a mixture of local businesses, community interest groups and charities, that all operate in – and around – the town centre.
During the meeting, improving transportation was discussed, because residents are being forced to leave venues early, in order to catch the last bus home. As a result, Jo Platt will advocate for an extension to the V2 service, so that people are able to make the most of the venues on offer for longer.
The group also spoke about how the day-time economy can learn from the success of the night-time economy, how vacant shops can be brought back into use and ways that general cleanliness of the highstreet can be improved.
The Practice Manger of local GP Practice also spoke about the support her practice needs to be able to offer support to the growing community.
Jo Platt said: “It was great to meet up with local businesses, community interest groups and charities, that are working in and around Atherton town centre.
“I have made improving our local highstreets one of my top priorities, so it was good to meet up with those that are on the ground, day in, day out, so that I can help to fix the problems they are facing.
“A list of actions was agreed upon during the meeting – and myself and my team will be working to seek solutions to the problems that these businesses are facing.”
