Today, Jo Platt chaired a meeting on regional funding for post-industrial towns like Leigh and Atherton.
The Labour MPs Group met to discuss Local Growth Funding plan. This group of MPs is committed to ensuring that towns like Leigh and Atherton get their fair share of investment.
The UK is one of the most unequal economies in the developed world, with London and parts of the South forging ahead of much of the rest of the country and numerous communities across our constituencies still struggling to get by.
The group wants to ensure that the present level of spending, at a minimum, needs to be maintained. They also believe that the primary purpose of local growth funding needs to be economic development and regeneration, and that funding should be fairly allocated on the basis of need not competitive bidding.
