Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – has been working with Government Ministers, the Environment Agency, local Councillors and the Leader of Wigan Council, to help ensure that those impacted by the floods have the support they need. She has also been pushing to help ensure that floods are prevented in future.
Flooding Minister Emma Hardy met up with Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – to visit areas in Leigh that have been impacted by recent flooding.
Following the visit, the Floods Minister mentioned the visit in her statement to the House of Commons, highlighting the impact of flooding on Lilford residents and emphasising the need to reassess existing flood resilience measures.
As well as ensuring that the Floods Minister visited, Jo also coordinated a visit by the Chair’ of the Environment Agency to Lilford, where they joined local councillors and a member of Jo’s office team, to assess the devastating impact on residents.
Jo also spoke to representatives from the Environment Agency, local councillors, and the Deputy Leader of Wigan Council, to raise residents’ concerns and ask questions on their behalf.
As well as this, Jo met with a representative of the Lilford Estate and local councillors to discuss collaboration on measures to mitigate future flooding events.
Jo Platt is committed to supporting local residents that have been impacted by the floods.
