There has been flooding in Leigh and Atherton overnight. Local MP Jo Platt has issued advice to those impacted.
If you’ve experienced flooding, please take the following steps:
- Call the Environment Agency’s Incident Hotline: 0800 807 060 – and provide them with your address, so that support is targeted.
- Contact Wigan Council’s out-of-hours emergency line on: 01942 404 040 – for advice and support on flooding, drainage, street lighting, building and electrical repairs and highways.
Jo Platt said: “I’m in contact with relevant agencies this morning to make sure that those affected are provided with every possible support.
“I would urge anyone at immediate risk to contact the emergency services.
“Wigan Council also has useful information about what to do during and after a flood. Please get in touch if there is anything that I, or my office, can do to support you in the coming days and weeks.”
Residents and emergency services are also reporting issues with people driving to the affected areas to watch the response. Please don’t do this, as this is hindering the operation. In many cases it’s actively making the situation worse, by creating waves that are forced into people’s properties.
