Christmas is, undoubtedly, an extremely busy time for Royal Mail, as staff work tirelessly to deliver everybody’s Christmas orders and cards. Leigh and Atherton MP – Jo Platt – visited the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Tyldesley today, to see how they are coping with the increased demand.
At this time of year, not only does Royal Mail employ extra staff, but current staff members are asked not to take holiday, as it’s all hands-on-deck to get mail and parcels delivered in time.
Jo Platt said: “It was great to visit the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Tyldesley. I got to see – first-hand – the huge amount of work that our posties do at this time of year.
“We discussed a lot of things during our meeting, including staffing levels and the increased number of parcels that the Royal Mail now has to process.
“It was great to see my former postie – from when I lived in Tyldesley – which is a sure indication that posties are very much part of our community, doing a great job that we are all grateful for.”
During her visit, Jo was taught how to sort mail, and she processed a few rounds for the posties to then deliver.
