Jo Platt, MP for Leigh and Atherton, is urging all local residents that are eligible to apply for Pension Credit before the Saturday 21st December deadline.
Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension Credit can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.
Jo Platt said: “I’d like to urge everybody in my constituency of Leigh and Atherton that’s eligible for Pension Credit to apply by the 21st December deadline.
“This extra money should make all the difference this winter, so if are able to receive it, please make sure you apply.
“If you are worried about the application process – or you have any questions about Pension Credit – then please feel free to contact my office and a member of my team will assist you.”
Here are some key things to know about Pension Credit:
- Eligible 65-year-olds can apply for Pension Credit up to four months before reaching the state pension age of 66.
- To get Pension Credit as a single person, your income must not be more than £218.15 a week.
- To get Pension Credit as a couple, your total income must not be over £332.95 a week.
- There are delays in Pension Credit processing, and some people are facing uncertainty until February or March 2025.
- The DWP says it’s likely to take two months for your application to be processed, but some people have had to wait much longer.
