Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – met up with Lucy Rigby, the Solicitor General, in Parliament today.

The meeting was set up by Jo, so she could discuss failures in the law, in relation to violence against women.

Lucy Rigby is the Solicitor General, which means she supports the Attorney General in civil litigation and advises on civil law matters and on issues that are in the public’s interest.

Jo wanted to talk to the Solicitor General about the Caroline Gore campaign, which is calling for a change in the law.

Caroline, a 44-year-old mother, was tragically killed by her abuser less than four weeks after he avoided jail for breaching a restraining order. The campaign, in her memory, is calling for a mandatory minimum prison sentence for those who breach protective orders.

The meeting between the pair follows Jo Platt speaking in Parliament on this issue. She addressed the Leader of the House, and asked them to agree that a minimum jail term for those breaching a restraining orders, would help to protect women. She also requested a debate on strengthening this law.
