Jo Platt MP joined the Atherton and Leigh Foodbank today, to help them with their Winter Food Collection. Donations of food, toiletries and cash are being accepted in store.
The team will be at Tesco Superstore Atherton and Tesco Extra Leigh from 9am-5pm, tomorrow (Saturday 30 November, 2024), so there’s still time to donate if you’d like to. There’s also permanent foodbank baskets in the store – that are emptied regularly – if you can’t get down there tomorrow, but you’d still like to donate.
When shoppers Tesco’s, Atherton and Leigh Foodbank volunteers will present them with a shopping list of the foodbank’s Most Wanted items. Volunteers are asking shoppers that can afford to, to add one or two extra bits to their shopping to then hand to volunteers as they leave the store. Alternatively, shoppers can drop cash in the donation tubs as they pass them, or scan the QR codes on our tables to donate online.
Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “The winter food collection is vital to Atherton and Leigh Foodbank’s efforts to help people facing hardship on the run up to Christmas, so anything you can spare will help.
“At a time when we are all facing unprecedented rises in the cost of living and energy, it was great to see, first hand, our local communities pulling together to support the important work that the foodbank does.
“The foodbank provides a vital lifeline for many, because there are people who simply can’t afford to eat at all, so adding one item costing as little as 50p to your shopping you will make a big difference to somebody, and it will help to boost the foodbank’s stock just before the big Christmas rush.”
The Winter Food Collection is an extra-special drive, ahead of the festive season, to ensure that everybody in the Leigh and Atherton constituency is fed this Christmas.
