Atherton Cricket Club has received a £80,000 grant from Centrica’s Energy for Tomorrow programme, in a bid to become carbon neutral. Local MP – Jo Platt – visited the club today, to find out about their plans.
Atherton Cricket Club, which dates back to 1872, is home to a number of cricket teams and community groups. The club also hosts numerous fun days, fundraising events and music events throughout the year.
The cricket club has received funding through Centrica’s Energy for Tomorrow (EfT) social impact fund. This will allow the club to replace its current oil heating system with a heat pump. They will also install solar panels and battery storage, which will enable the club to generate and store energy. The grant will help the club to significantly reduce energy costs.
Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “It was great to meet up with the team at Atherton Cricket Club. Not only did we discuss their work within the local community, but we also spoke about them being awarded the Centrica’s Energy for Tomorrow Grant, which has helped them offset the cost of electricity and support their decarbonisation journey.
