Jo Platt MP for Leigh and Atherton

Jo Platt attended Lush’s Parliamentary Reception to discuss tackling animal testing.
Parliamentarians and industry experts met up at the event, to discuss how we end animal testing and how we can enable the UK to become a global leader in the development of innovative, human-relevant science.
Jo Platt said: “I attended a meeting with Lush Cosmetics – to discuss animal testing. We spoke to industry experts, NGOs and businesses during the event – and we all agreed that cross-sector collaboration is essential if we are going to achieve a comprehensive ban on animal testing. It’s imperative that we all work together and invest in scientific alternatives.”
Lush launched in 1995 and the company has never tested on animals. The company doesn’t believe that animal testing is acceptable. The company recognises that customer safety is of importance, but believes this can be achieved without the use of animals.
Since 2012, Lush has awarded nearly £3 million to scientists who are working to end, or replace animal testing, and those training in these new methodologies worldwide, through the Lush Prize. This funding has led advancements in the quest to replace animals in safety testing.
