Jo Platt attends an event about fighting child food poverty.

Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, attended an event in Parliament today – which was focused on tackling child food poverty.

During the event, Jo spoke about to Sysco and Meals & More, about the great work both organisations undertake to support children throughout the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF).

The programme, which is relied upon by millions of families across the country, has a hub on Dorset Road in Atherton.

Sysco and Meals & More are hoping that the new Government will be able to play a vital role in tackling holiday hunger. Therefore, we are urging the Government to do the following:

  1. Commit to fund the HAF after the initial three-year funding settlement expires
  2. Ensure that any future funding settlement for the HAF is index-linked
  3. Extend the scope of the HAF to include all children that are in households that have below-average resources not just those eligible for free school meals

Jo Platt said: “It was great to meet up with Sysco and Meals & More, to discuss the action needed to improve and develop the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF).”
