In preparation for Remembrance Sunday, local MP Jo Platt visited St Peter’s Church on First Lane in Leigh.
Leigh West Councillors – Dane Anderton and Sue Greensmith – accompanied Jo on the visit.
Jo Platt said: “I had the privilege of visiting St Peter’s Church, where the memorial statue was beautifully illuminated to honour all those who lost their lives in the First World War. The stunning poppy display and tapestry, lovingly crafted by Helen, truly reflects the deep pride our community takes in remembering the fallen.
“I also visited Leigh Cenotaph, where I lit a candle in tribute.
“I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Councillors and Wigan Council for their ongoing support in keeping the memory of our heroes alive.”
A Remembrance Day parade will take place this Sunday. It will start on Railway Road at 10:30am.
