In recent months the residents of Rothwell Farm have been reporting ongoing issues with the delivery of their mail. Jo has been closely monitoring the situation, alongside the Golborne and Lowton West councillors.
Last week, Councillor Gena Merrett and a member Jo’s team met with the management team at the Newton-Le-Willows Delivery Office. During the meeting, Councillor Gena Merrett laid out the issues faced by the constituents of Rothwell’s Farm and highlighted some of the ways this has been impacting residents. Some have missed hospital appointments due to late deliveries, and others have faced fines for late responses.
Royal Mail said that the delivery issues had been due to higher-than-normal absence levels, as well as challenges with recruitment. But they also confirmed that several new members of staff had been recruited – three of whom are now operational – and three who are currently in training. Sickness levels have improved and there will also be agency staff employed for the Christmas Period. Staff will not be permitted to take annual leave during this period either.
Jo Platt, MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “Monitoring of the postal service shows that deliveries are currently taking place for most of East Meadow Close, six days a week. If they cannot deliver on a certain day, it will be delivered the next working day.
“Myself and the Golborne and Lowton West councillors will continue to monitor the level of service, and we would advise residents to get in touch should there be any further issues. We suggest residents keep their envelopes if they do experience further delays, as this will make it easier to track.”
