Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, attended a Barnardo’s event in Westminster today. The ‘Conversation with Care Leavers: Supporting Journeys to Independence’ event gave care-experienced young people the opportunity to talk about what they would like to see change to support care leavers as they become independent.
The event was hosted by MP Josh MacAlister and Lynn Perry – the Chief Executive of Barnardo’s. Speakers included Minister Daby – the new Minister for Children and Families – and Damian Hinds MP.
Jo Platt said: “It was great to attend the Barnardo’s event in Westminster today. We heard from care-experienced young people about what changes they would like to see to support their journeys to independence.
“It is really importance that those leaving our care system receive the help and support that they need to make that step into adulthood. It was great to hear some practical suggestions for change from those that been in that situation themselves.”
