This year, Community Shop marks its 10th anniversary as the UK’s first social supermarket chain. Jo Platt met up with them today, as the chain launched its new white paper – The Food and Beveridge Report.
Not only is The Bridge – in Leigh – a community shop, but Jo is an Officer for the APPG for Greater Manchester – helping to provide a strong voice for the city region in Parliament, so this was an important event for her to attend.
During the meeting, Community Shop shared practical recommendations for creating a more sustainable, affordable, and dignified food aid system ,which is fit for the future.
Andrew Forsey OBE, the National Director for Feeding Britain, was one of the people that spoke during the Community Shop event.
Jo Platt, MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “It was great to meet up with Community Shop – to discuss important issues such as social supermarkets, reducing waste, feeding families and strengthening communities.
“I particularly enjoyed the speech by Andrew Forsey OBE, the National Director at Feeding Britain. It was wonderful to hear his insights.
“This event was also a great opportunity to draw attention to the great work done at The Bridge in Leigh.”
