Around £1m in UK Government funding will be used to provide grants to deliver a range of repair and conservation work to retail and other business premises within the town centre – particularly within the Conservation Areas around Railway Road and Bradshawgate.

Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “The Town Centre Building Grant Scheme is a great initiative – and I’d urge any business in the town centre that is eligible – to apply.
“We need to revitalise our highstreets and this is a great scheme that has the potential to vastly improve the look and feel of our town centre.”
As part of local engagement activities leaflets have been delivered to premises in the area, and 120 property owners have also been written to directly, to make them aware of the scheme.
Businesses in Leigh town centre, that are interested in finding out more about the Building Grant Scheme, can attend drop-in sessions for coffee, cake and details of how to apply. These sessions will be held at Bookcycle, 19-2 Bradshawgate, Leigh, from 11am-7pm, on 2 and 3 October.
The deadline to apply is Saturday 30 November, 2024.
