Wigan GP Alliance, which provides access to doctors to people across the borough of Wigan and Leigh, is opening up a new medical centre on Lord Street, in Leigh.

The new surgery, which will in the building which previously housed Stephenson’s Solicitors, is expected to be open by the end of the year.

Jo Platt, MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “I welcome seeing an increase in local provision for Leigh and Atherton – which will mean more appointments for residents requiring non-urgent treatment outside of surgery operating hours.

“Previously, residents have had to travel to Wigan in order to access Wigan GP Alliances’ services, but we will soon have our own hub here in Leigh.”

Warren Liptrot, Director of Operations at Wigan GP Alliance, said: “Wigan GP Alliance has taken a long time finding the right location to set up a clinical space in Leigh to support Leigh and its surrounding areas.

“We are excited this project is now well under way and hopefully will be ready to start delivering medical appointments before Christmas.”

Steve, from Wigan-based firm SGS Interiors, was also on site. The majority of the work being completed is being undertaken by local traders.
