Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, visited Leigh Boxing & Fitness, in celebration of funding that the club recently received from GMP.

Jo visited alongside long-time supporters, including Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, Councillor Dane Anderton, Trevor Barton and members of Astley Rotary Club.

One of the club’s boxers – Paddy Hewitt – is currently representing Great Britain at the Olympics in Paris. Paddy started sparring at the club when he was just eight years old.

Jo Platt said: “What a fantastic club Leigh Boxing & Fitness is. They have a current star competing in the Paris Olympics and many other future GB stars in the making.

“This is what true community sporting clubs are all about – being dedicated to the achievements of the kids involved and nothing else. I am proud to support them.”
