Local MP Jo Platt was there to support the Atherton Family Hub launch, on Formby Avenue earlier today.
Jo Platt, who was elected as the MP for Leigh and Atherton last month, was keen to throw to support behind the Family Hub, which is the third to open within the Wigan borough. Jo attended the event alongside Atherton South and Lilford councillors – Debra Wailes, John Harding and Lee McStein.
Family Hubs are a new way of bringing together all the support that a family may need. Individuals can get support from the Family Hub through pregnancy and that child will then be supported until they turn 19 (or 25 if they have a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND)).
Ways that the Family Hub network can help families includes:
- Health visiting, midwifery and antenatal appointments and classes
- Activities for babies and children aged 0-5
- Support advice and guidance for families of children and young people with SEND needs
- Housing advice and support – including homelessness, help with affordability and tenancy arrangements
- Help with debt and money worries – including access to food parcels/pantries
- Ways to improve whole family’s physical and mental health and wellbeing
- Parenting support, advice, and guidance
- Help to build, strengthen and maintain healthy relationships including learning opportunities
- Activities, opportunities, and support for young people
The Family Hub in Atherton is the third of seven that will soon be operating across the Wigan borough. This means that if you live within the constituency of Leigh and Atherton, you should always be able to find support within your neighbourhood.
The Family Hub event ran from 11am until 2pm and there were lots of free, fun activities on offer for all ages. Peppa Pig even made an appearance!
