Jo Platt – the MP for Leigh and Atherton – met up with apprenticeship providers in at a fair in Westminster this week, to discuss current training opportunities. The event was being held in conjunction with National Apprenticeships Week 2025 .

The fair was well attended by employers, education providers and apprentices alike. Some of the UK’s largest apprentice employers were in attendance, including BAE Systems, the Co-op, Manchester Metropolitan University, Engineering UK, Hospitality Industry Training and University of Salford.

One of the exhibitors that Jo spent time with was Manchester Metropolitan University – who told her all about their about their degree apprenticeships.

Manchester Metropolitan University partners with over 680 national and local organisations to give apprentices the opportunity to earn while they learn, and to develop the skills that employers want and need.

Jo Platt said: “The fair provided an excellent opportunity for me to hear from those directly involved in delivering England’s apprenticeships provision and to discuss the successes and challenges of the current system.

“There are plenty of opportunities available – and may of the providers that I spoke to today will be able to tap into the wealth of talent that we have here in Leigh and Atherton.”
